Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, which by the way is celebrating its 36th year in existence. Black History month was started back in 1926 as Negro History week by Carter G. Woodson. It was used to educate and instill a sense of pride in African Americans. The same can be said about my mixtape “African American History For Dummies”. The Mixtape was released in conjunction with the book entitled “African American History For Dummies” by author Ronda Racha Penrice. Every song featured on the project explores the black experience in America from a Hip Hop point of view.  The intro to the mixtape is done by Michael Eric Dyson and it features music by Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Goodie Mob, Arrested Development, Public Enemy and many more. Last Saturday (Jan 21, 2012) I got a chance to DJ the official video release party for Zoe Myers.  The exclusive event was held over at 56 East Andrews in Buckhead.  At the party Zoe premiered her new video “Destiny Knows My Name” and she also celebrated her 25th birthday with her family and celebrity friends.  I had a great time rocking out the tunes at this event.  Check out some pics from the event below:

Last night (Tuesday January 25, 2012) Atlanta based hip hop artist Waka Flocka Flame and SEA Brand Clothing company launched a custom Brick Squad Monopoly snapback hat to support Waka Flocka’s new anti-bullying campaign. The launch party was held at Wish Boutique in Little 5 points to help raise awareness to the plague of children being bullied in schools across the country.  Waka, who allowed his fans to choose a cause for him to support through his #wakanewyear initiative, will donate 25 percent of all sales from the custom hat to The Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

Serato and Rane recently unveiled the Rane Sixty One & The Rane Sixty Two for Serato Scratch Live. The two mixers were unveiled last week at the NAMM show and will be available in February of 2012.  The highly anticipated DJ mixers are great additions to the Rane mixer line and are designed to integrate performer, hardware and software.  I think Im gonna roll with the Sixty Two because the Sixty One doesnt have XLR Outputs but either way both mixers look pretty dope.  Cant wait for them to drop!!!

On Jan 6th 2012, I got a chance to check out the advanced private screening of the new Warner Bros movie Joyful Noise.  The movie screening was held at the Regal Cinemas at Atlantic Station.  Joyful Noise which was filmed in Atlanta, is about a church choir that teams together to win a national choir competition. Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah, Kris Kristofferson, KeKe Palmer, Courtney B. Vance and Kirk Franklin all star in the film. After the screening there was a panel discussion hosted by 11 Alive news anchor Karyn Grier with Keke Palmer, Kirk Franklin, Ivan Kelly and Karen Peck.
