People of all backgrounds, and lovers of all musical genres, agree that DJ Blak Magic works a spell on the turntables unlike any other deejay they have ever experienced. Gaining new fans after every gig, he’s one guy who does not need a hype man because his skills—and his clients—speak for themselves.
Blak Magic has three resident gigs and books private events in between, truly earning his title as “The Hardest Working DJ in Atlanta.” Club goers at one of his residencies, Club Obsessions, dance and drink all night to his weekly sets and always leave wanting more. Plus, as the city’s most popular deejay for must-attend private events, Blak Magic typically moves participants at these gatherings—which range from corporate shindigs and weddings to art unveilings and runway fashion shows—to say, “Who is this guy? He’s awesome. I’ve got to get his card.” Celebrity fans regularly shout him out and book him, too.
So, who is DJ Blak Magic?
An Atlanta native hailing from Decatur, Georgia, he has been spinning the wheels of steel since 16 years old. His love for music was borne of a vast record collection given to him by his father. Growing up he also loved early hip-hop. He recognized many of the melodies and drum lines that the genre borrowed from the songs he’d listened to again and again on vinyl. His mother influenced him musically as well as a songstress in the church choir.
Wise parenting and the creative purpose he felt as he experimented with music, kept DJ Blak Magic out of the streets, away from trouble and formed the foundation of his future success. Along the way, he tried his hand at several musical exploits including recording arts: He was breifly signed to Dallas Austin’s Rowdy Records and has recorded with Chris Bridges, the artist known as “Ludacris.” With a keen ear for good music and great talent, Blak Magic also spent a few years producing music and managing other artists. But alas, deejaying is the creative art form that he has chosen and mastered.
Leaving corporate America behind, DJ Blak Magic is now an accomplished entrepreneur. A nationally known live entertainment all-star, he is—hands down—the go-to deejay for hip, high-profile, happening events.
Even with a jam-packed schedule, DJ Blak Magic believes in giving back to the community. His non-profit program, Turnin’ the Tables, introduces at-risk youth to deejaying and encourages them to turn negative experiences into positive outcomes by channeling their emotions through music, creativity and the principles of entrepreneurship.
Always up for new projects and meeting new people, DJ Blak Magic is a recognizable fixture on Atlanta’s A-list music entertainment scene. Some of his past clients and collaborators include: Janelle Monae, Usher, QuestLove, The Hard Rock Cafe, Starbucks, Aloft Hotels, BET Music Matters Tour, VH-1, Hennessy Artistry, The National Democratic Committee, Ebony Magazine, Allstate Insurance, The Salvation Army, Sephoria, Hilton Hotels, The Atlantan Magazine, and a host of others.
